Each fall more than 100 golfers gather to play a round of golf, enjoy fellowship, and partner together to raise money to provide scholarships for those obeying the call to go on mission, but lacking the funds to support themselves. Specifically, the "Tee it Up Fore Missions" Golf Tournament has supported Bay Leaf college students and recent graduates in their pursuit to take the gospel to the nations.
The 18-29 year old demographic often has the flexibility to go anywhere at anytime, yet they often lack the necessary financial support to make it to the field. Further, this demographic is often especially sensitive to the Spirit's leading toward international works. The mission trips supported by this golf tournament bears fruit on multiple levels. I'll highlight two.
1. The short-term trips themselves have as a goal to encourage missionaries and to make disciples of the nations. On trips supported by this tournament, church planters and missionary teams have been blessed, hundreds of indigenous foreigners have heard the gospel for the first time, and dozens have been baptized into the name of our Triune God.
2. God works deeply in the lives of those who go to help them navigate and discern the calling on their own lives. Individuals who have participated on these trips had an opportunity to discern God's calling on their lives by participating with God on a guided mission trip through Bay Leaf Baptist Church. Several past participants were introduced to missions on these trips. Many began pursuing missions in a vocational sense after they returned home. In fact a few full-time missionaries are now on the field in places like Japan and Czech Republic because of their original participation in a short-term mission trip.
The Tee it Up Fore Missions Golf Tournament provides a wonderful avenue to raise money for missions through a round of golf on one of the state's premier courses.
I hope you'll join us on September 29th for a round of Golf at Hasentree Club!
